Forests, Alligators, Battlefields: My Journey through the National Parks of the South is a narrative of my visits to the national park units of the Southeast, including battlefields, monuments, historic sites.

Every national park has a human story as well as great scenery. For several years, I’ve been visiting national park units of the Southeast, 71 including several trails. I’m using the NPS definition of Southeast – Louisiana to the West, Atlantic Ocean east, Kentucky, north and the US Virgin Islands south.

The book focuses on not only historical characters and events, but also rangers, volunteers, park partners and visitors, i.e. the people who bring the park alive.

I want to be part of the conversation about National Parks at the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service.
